Working as experts
Along with producing and providing books, Celia also works as a specialist centre in its field as well as collaborating internationally, particularly with libraries for print disabled in different countries.
Celia is the founding member of the Finnish DAISY Consortium. The main task of the Finnish DAISY Consortium is to promote the use and awareness of the Daisy format in Finland. Celia also works together with the international DAISY Consortium. Markku Leino, the Head of I.T. and Development at Celia, is a member of the board of the international DAISY Consortium.
The Braille Authority of Finland (‘Braille-Neuvottelukunta' in Finnish) is an expert body that works to improve and develop Braille by issuing recommendations and drawing up guidelines.
The talking book committee of the Association of Libraries for the Visually Impaired consists of Celia patrons, employees and experts in speech technology, and their task is to monitor the quality of talking books.
Celia also functions as an expert in the following ways:
- Celia is represented in the advisory board of the Plain Language Centre (Selkokeskus), which has appointed members from almost thirty associations. The advisory board monitors the progress of plain language and aims to promote communication in plain language.
- Celia has been a member of IFLA (the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions) since 1990. Service Manager Minna von Zansen is a standing committee member of Libraries Serving Persons with Print Disabilities (LPD) section of IFLA for the term 2007–2011. At the same time, she is also a member of the taskforce behind the Global Library project, which is connected to the international DAISY Consortium.
- Celia is a member of the EU Design for All (DfA) network, which works to promote accessibility. Read more about the Finnish DfA Network on the Stakes homepage.
- Celia has also played a part in improving the production of tactile books as part of the European Tactus project.
