Book reproduction principles

Textbooks for university students are reproduced in talking book, DAISY or Braille format. The majority of textbooks are reproduced in DAISY format with the printed book's full text in both text format and as synthesised voice audio.

Books that have not been previously added to Celia's collection can be especially produced on request.

If you have special needs, please contact Celia to discuss the case further.

Books that can be produced by Celia:

  • Only books that are mandatory reading for a course.
  • Only entire books, no articles.
  • The most recent edition.
  • The book must be available at a bookstore or library.

Books not reproduced by Celia:

  • Celia does not reproduce Finnish Law (the FINLEX Data Bank is available online) or dictionaries.
  • Books that are already available in audio book format will not be reproduced by Celia.
  • Books that are already available in an accessible format online or in an electronic and accessible format in a school library's own collections will not be reproduced by Celia.
  • Books that are difficult to reproduce in an accessible format. Some examples:
    • the book is written in a language for which finding a qualified narrator is difficult
    • the book contains a large number of special symbols or characters that are difficult to scan correctly
    • the book contains a large number of graphics that are difficult to describe.

Producing a new title in DAISY format takes approximately two months. The first binding of a new Braille book is normally available within one month of placing the order.
